3-month-old found dead in Auburn apartment; parents not held

Police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old Thursday morning at an Auburn apartment complex.

Auburn police responded about 5:30 a.m. to a call of an infant not breathing at The Gardens apartment complex, 1420 17th St. SE., spokesman Steve Stocker said. The child’s parents and two other young children were home at the time.

Detectives investigating the death took the children into protective custody — Stocker did not know why — and interviewed the parents, who were released. The detectives served a search warrant on the house, which Stocker said is common.

King County medical examiners took custody of the infant’s body.

“We’ll know more tomorrow after the autopsy as to whether there’s anything suspicious about this,” Stocker said.
