Lakebay woman, 48, killed in head-on crash on Rocky Bay Point Road

A Lakebay woman was killed in a collision on state Route 302 near Rocky Bay late last week, and an Allyn woman was injured.

Melissa S. Carbone-Owens, 48, died when the car she was driving eastbound on Route 302 veered into oncoming traffic near 194th Avenue SW and crashed head-on into another car, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident occurred about 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. Route 302 is also known as Rocky Bay Point Rd. KPN.

Carbone-Owens was driving a 1996 Lincoln Town Car, which came to rest astride both lanes of Route 302, which is also known at that point as Rocky Bay Point Rd. KPN.

The other car, a 2010 Toyota 4-Runner, went down an embankment. Its driver, a 44-year-old Allyn woman, was injured and taken to Tacoma General Hospital. She was not identified.
