Burglars drove a stolen car into a Pierce County smoke shop. Police are investigating
Gig Harbor Police are investigating a vehicle smash-and-grab incident at the Smokeland store in Gig Harbor.
Four burglars rammed a stolen car into the store at 5114 Point Fosdick Dr. NW, which sells cigarettes, liquor and other products, at 2:25 a.m. on Nov. 3, Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey told The News Tribune Nov. 12.
He said such incidents are unusual in Gig Harbor.
After smashing in the entrance, the burglars stole merchandise from the store and fled, likely in another vehicle, according to Busey. He wasn’t able to share how much was stolen yet because police are still waiting for a report of lost inventory. Police obtained surveillance footage of the incident from a neighboring business.
The store was unoccupied and locked at the time, Busey said, and the vehicle used to ram the entrance was stolen from a nearby apartment complex. It was towed from the scene and police notified the owner.
Gig Harbor Public Works employees helped secure the business after the incident occurred that night, since the owner wasn’t there, according to the city’s Nov. 6 department updates.
He told The News Tribune officers are following up on a few leads, and that no one had been arrested as of Nov. 13.
