UPDATE: Power in this part of Pierce County being restored following car wreck

Update, 11:48 a.m.: All but one customer has now been restored, according to PenLight’s outage map.

Update, 10:24 a.m.: Power has been restored to all but about 680 customers west of Lakebay, according to PenLight’s outage map.

Previous post: Thousands of customers on Key Peninsula were without power Tuesday after a car crashed into a utility pole overnight, Peninsula Light Co. reported.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. Monday off Lackey Road, the utility reported on X.

As of about 7 a.m. Tuesday, more than 2,200 customers, mostly in the Longbranch area, remained without electricity, according to the utility’s outage map.

“The car unfortunately hit a transmission pole. These poles carry high-voltage power over long distances - impacting more people & take longer to replace (the smaller distribution poles deliver lower-voltage power from substations to homes - which cause less impact when hit),” PenLight wrote on X.

Peninsula Light estimated most service would be restored by 10 a.m.
