Ivar’s hosted its long-awaited grand opening in Gig Harbor Friday.

The fast casual seafood restaurant in the Uptown shopping center planned to officially cut the ribbon at 10:30 a.m., according to the company’s post on social media. The event was set to include “dancing clams” and feature a drawing for free fish and chips for a year, according to the post.

The drawing will be open from April 3 to April 24, and the rules allow one entry per person. No purchase is necessary to win. The full contest rules are available on Ivar’s website.

Ivar’s signed the lease for the space at 4901 Point Fosdick Dr. in December and told The News Tribune that the seafood bar will be their first location west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in at least 25 years. A news release said the restaurant “will feature all of Ivar’s favorites — fish and chips, clams and chips, broiled salmon Caesar salads, Ivar’s famous white clam chowder and other soups made in its secret kitchens in Mukilteo.” The full menu is now available online.

The space will seat more than 80 customers inside and 30 on an outdoor patio, the release said.

Ivar’s now has 19 seafood bars and fish bars around the Puget Sound area, including locations in Tacoma, Lakewood and Puyallup. The chain also has three full-service restaurants and four stadium concession locations.

The Gig Harbor location will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the Ivar’s website.
