Here’s the latest on Chick-fil-A’s plan for a drive-thru in Gig Harbor
Chick-fil-A appears to be moving forward with its plans for a new drive-thru restaurant in Gig Harbor.
The Georgia-based chicken chain’s development representatives last month resubmitted an application for a conditional-use permit at the proposed site, 5115 Olympic Dr. in Gig Harbor.
The property, currently a Chevron gas station, is across from Harbor Plaza Shopping Center and its Metropolitan Market grocery anchor, and just west of the Olympic Drive and Point Fosdick Drive intersection.
Plans call for demolition of the current building for a new drive-thru only, quick-service restaurant.
The city Planning Department’s update published May 6 stated that development representatives incorporated revisions “in response to prior staff comments and review feedback.”
It added, “City staff will now conduct a detailed evaluation of the updated submission to ensure that all identified issues have been adequately addressed and that the proposal complies with applicable regulations and development standards. Once staff determines that all elements of the application meet the necessary requirements, they will prepare a recommendation for approval.”
A final decision will be made by the city’s hearing examiner, who is responsible for reviewing the full record and “considering any additional input or testimony, and ultimately issuing a determination on the proposal,” the update stated.
One major revision seen on the plans is the switch of locations for parking and the main building to conform with city code. The site is still planned as a dual-lane drive-thru, quick-service site with more than 40 parking stalls and outdoor seating.
Restaurant representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment on May 8.
