Gig Harbor police blotter: Dog fights, stolen kayaks and lotion in motion
(Note: Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, this reports consolidates incidents from the previous two weeks)
Dog fight
Nov. 18 — A woman’s dog broke free from its leash and attacked a neighbor’s dog, causing an ear injury.
Police were dispatched at 9:33 a.m. to the 10500 block of Sentinel Drive Northwest, where the caller complained that it was the third time the neighbor’s dog had broken free.
The dog’s owner agreed to pay the $140 veterinarian bill and said she will be taking her dog to obedience training classes and will walk her dog with a muzzle for now on. Police considered the matter resolved.
Stolen kayak
Nov. 19 – A woman’s kayak was stolen from a marina dock. The watercraft is valued at $900.
Police were dispatched at 12:43 p.m. to the 3100 block of Harborview Drive, where the kayak was stored in the open on the dock next to the woman’s boat. She said typically the kayaks are secured with a cable lock around a ladder, however, the ladder was removed and the kayak was not locked at the time of theft.
Leaf blower left
Nov. 26 – A car wash worker using a leaf blower left it in the parking lot unattended. A man was seen taking the leaf blower, putting it in his vehicle, and driving away.
Police were dispatched at 3:53 p.m. to the 6700 block of Kimball drive, where the reporting party gave officers the license plate number of the suspect car.
The vehicle’s license plate revealed it belonged to a man with an extensive pawn history. He has had a number of arrests. The case is active.
Lotion found no takers
Dec. 1 – A man tried to sell lotion back to a grocery store but the lotion was a brand the store did not sell. He then attempted to sell the lotion to random customers in the store.
Police were dispatched at 8:34 p.m. to the 4800 block of Point Fosdick Drive, where the man insisted to officers that he had done nothing wrong. He stated he was out of gas and tried selling the lotion for money.
At the same time, a man and a woman also suspected of shoplifting were seen leaving the store, heading for a car parked next to the lotion seller’s.
The store declined to press charges, and all three were released with trespass warnings.
