Gig Harbor firefighters respond to two scary alarms, both accidental

Dec. 6: Candle fire — Firefighters were dispatched about 3:30 p.m. to a house fire in the area of 100th Street and Peacock Hill Dr. An unattended candle ignited a Christmas decoration. The homeowner was alerted by a smoke detector and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported and the damage was minimal.

Dec. 7: Motor Vehicle Collision — At approximately 11:30 a.m. firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision at 78th Avenue and Rosedale Street. Fire personnel arrived to find one vehicle involved with no injuries. The scene was turned over to law enforcement and fire crews left the scene.

Dec. 9: Carbon Monoxide Alarm — Firefighters were dispatched about 8:30 p.m. to a carbon monoxide alarm in an apartment at the Forest Grove complex in the 5400 block of 35th Ave. Firefighters used gas monitors and found no CO in the apartment and no gas appliances or fixtures in use. Further investigation found that the CO alarm batteries were old.

Dec. 11: Non-injury collision Firefighters responded about 10:30 a.m. to a motor vehicle collision at the 5100 block of Olympic Dr. Firefighters arrived to find two vehicles with damage and Gig Harbor PD already at scene. It was determined there were no injuries.

Dec. 12: Accidental alarm — Firefighters were dispatched about noon to an automatic fire alarm at St. Anthony Hospital. The first arriving fire engine made contact with an official from the hospital and found that it was an accidental activation.
