Chamber 40th Anniversary — 11:30 a.m. today, Jan. 9 in the Canterwood Country Club, 12606 54th Ave. NW. The Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 40th anniversary at a special luncheon. Keynote speaker will be Richard White, senior government relations manager for the Boeing Company.

State of Port Orchard — 11 a.m. today, Jan. 9 in Pilgrim Firs Camp and Conference Center, 3318 SW. Lake Flora Road, Port Orchard. Annual “State of Port Orchard” luncheon of the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce, with updates from city officials.

Friday

Meaningful Movies — 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 in Agnus Dei Lutheran Church, 10511 Peacock Hill Rd. “Big Money Agenda” explores why Americans are sicker, poorer and less safe than they ought to be because of dark money in politics.

Saturday

Montana Troubadour Potluck — 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 in the Olalla Community Club, 12970 Olalla Valley Road. Potluck dinner and 7 p.m. concert featuring Jack Gladstone, an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, in a concert of music, poetry and spoken word. Donation $20. Community Beach Monitoring — 8:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Sunrise Beach Park, 10015 Sunrise Beach Dr. NW. Become a citizen scientist, and help Harbor Wildwatch collect data about the environment. Free event, all ages welcome, no experience required. Meet in the parking lot; small hike down to the beach. Sen. Emily Randall Town Hall — 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Tacoma Community College Gig Harbor, 3993 Hunt St. Town Hall meeting on education with State Sen. Emily Randall (D) 26th District. She will host a similar meeting on military and human services at 11:30 a.m. the same day in Port Orchard City Hall, 216 Prospect St.

Academy Open House — 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at Gig Harbor Academy, 6820 32nd St. NW. Open house for parents of students preschool through fifth grade interested in the progressive private school.

Sunday

Blood Drive — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 3510 Rosedale St. after all Masses. Donors should eat well and drink non-caffeinated beverages.

Monday

Baby Story Time — 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13 at Pierce County Gig Harbor Library, 4424 Point Fosdick Dr.Stories, art activities, rhymes, singing and fingerplays for very young children and caregivers.

Tuesday

After-School Tuesday — 4:30 p.m. in the Pierce County Gig Harbor Library, 4424 Point Fosdick Dr. After-school science and crafts for elementary school kids. This week: Parachuting candy.

Upcoming

Hootenany — 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Mustard Seed Project, 9016 154th Ave. Court NW, Lakebay. An hour of folksong, words and chords provided. Bring your voice, guitar, banjo or washboard. Presented with the Two Waters Alliance.

Community Lunch and Lecture Noon Thursday, Jan. 16 at Heron’s Key, 4340 Borgen Blvd. Philosopher David Smith speaks on “Civil Conversation in an Angry Age.” Bring a sack lunch to eat at noon. The lecture begins at 12:30 p.m. Reserve your seat by calling 253-313-0785 by Jan. 13.
