Gig Harbor police blotter: An unwelcome call to mom, and panic over a BB gun

Jan. 2 – A young man and women were suspected of stealing $67 worth of alcohol. When asked for his age, the male said he was 18. The officer found out he was three days away from being 18, so had to contact the suspect’s parents.

Police were dispatched at 9:23 p.m. to the 11300 block of 51st Avenue after seeing a store manager sprint at full speed outside of a grocery store, chasing after a vehicle. Police contacted the grocery store worker who said he saw them steal multiple bottles of alcohol.

Once the mother was contacted she was upset, saying this was not the first time her son had done this. The male suspect has a court day within the next few days and is currently on probation. The store manager said he wanted to prosecute for the theft.

It was just a BB gun

Jan. 2 – A man was seen outside of a pizza restaurant playing with what looked like a gun. When police approached the man, they learned he was holding a BB gun.

Police were dispatched at 2:26 p.m. to the 4800 block of Point Fosdick Drive where an employee had locked the front door of the business after seening a man with a gun outside of the store.

The man appeared to be homeless and was not threatening anyone with the BB gun. The man lives in Tacoma and police took the BB gun for safekeeping, and then gave the man a courtesy ride to Tacoma.
