Police blotter: Dim lights, dubious i.d.; and a shoplifter in search of socks.
Dim lights and a fake name
Jan. 17 – Pulled over for having his high beams on while driving close to other cars, a driver explained to the officer that his headlights were too dim to see properly. He then provided a learner’s permit as i.d., but the name on the permit was his brother’s. A check showed that the man’s license was suspended.
The driver was issued a criminal citation with a court date. He then agreed to park the vehicle off the roadway.
Stocking up on socks
Jan. 15 – A man was contacted and placed in handcuffs after store workers noticed him attempting to steal socks. The man admitted stealing Q-tips and moisture wipes, and when asked about the socks, he said he was planning to steal them but chose to put them back.
Police were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. to the 5500 block of Olympic Drive where the man admitted to stealing the two items, totaling $5.73. The staff requested that the man be cited for trespass only.
The two items were returned and the man signed a trespass form barring him from the store..
