Police blotter: A receipt for the wrong store, and an imposter pastor

Fake receipt

Jan. 23 – After placing a new pair of shoes in a bag, a man began to walk out of the store. When confronted by staff, he held up a receipt saying he purchased the shoes from a different store.

Police were dispatched at 8:08 p.m. to the 5100 block of Borgen Boulevard where the suspect held up his middle finger after he was asked to verify the receipt. The suspect then told staff to follow him to the other store and he could show them the shoes that he bought, but staff refused for their own safety.

Staff provided police with two photos of the suspect.

Imposter pastor

Jan. 22 – a woman received an email from a person she thought was her pastor, asking her to purchase two eBay cards worth $200 each to help because the congregation was in a crisis. The woman did so and gave the card number to the imposter, but after he requested an additional $600, she began to get suspicious and contacted the church, which informed her that the pastor made no such request.

Police were dispatched at 12:51 p.m. to the 10100 block of Sentinel Lp, where the woman explained the scam to the officer. Many others from the church received a similar email, she said, but no one responded to them. There are currently no leads.
