Phishing Scam

Jan. 30 – Businesses in Gig Harbor have reported receiving an email demanding payment for a city business license. According to the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce, this is a scam intended to steal financial information. Business licenses are issued by the state, not the city. The chamber said it appears the emails are coming from overseas.

The driver who said “No.”

Feb. 6 – After seeing a woman driving recklessly, a Gig Harbor police officer asked to see her driver’s license. She replied, ‘No.’ The officer then asked how much she had to drink, and she replied, once again, ‘No.’

The woman was pulled over about 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of 56th Street, where she was seen driving in the center of a two-way turn lane without using a turn signal.

Asked to step out of the car, the woman was unsteady on her feet, the officer reported. The officer asked her to perform a voluntary sobriety or breathalyzer test, and she answered ‘no’ to each question.

The woman was arrested, and the officer placed her in his vehicle. There, she finally said, yes, she had ‘a lot’ of alcohol.

Impatient at the ATM

Feb. 4 – Two women got into a fight at a drive-in bank ATM machine in the 4500 block of Point Fosdick Drive. One woman was taking a long time with her transaction at about 11:35 a.m., and the driver behind her got impatient, police said.

The second woman got out of her car, walked up to the ATM and tried to cut in line to do her own transaction. A verbal altercation took place, which included a man who had been in the second vehicle. The couple then backed out of the line and drove away.

The victim banged on the bank window to ask for help, and waited inside while police arrived. Video evidence shows that the altercation did occur, and officers obtained the license plate number of the impatient driver’s vehicle.
