Accidents, including a head-on collision and rollover, keep Gig Harbor firefighters busy

Feb. 28: Head-on collision — A head-on motor vehicle collision occurred just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Olympic Drive and Hollycroft Street. Crews provided scene safety and traffic control. Medics evaluated a total of three occupants. All declined further medical aid. Gig Harbor Police Department was on the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Feb. 28: Two-car accident — Gig Harbor firefighters and medics responded to the scene of a two-car T-bone type collision around 5:30 p.m. at Purdy Drive and State Route 302. The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles. One driver was transported to a local hospital.

Feb. 29: Car vs. pole with arcing — Around 7 p.m. a vehicle hit a power pole near the intersection of Hallstrom Drive and 115th St Ct NW. Power lines reported as down and arcing. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene and Peninsula Light was notified. The vehicle was found by crews on its wheels, not blocking, with no power lines down. The road was blocked for traffic control and firefighters confirmed that there was no immediate threat from the power lines. Medics evaluated and treated the occupant of the vehicle. Peninsula Light secured the power line.

March 3: Rollover accident — Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was dispatched to the report of a roll-over motor vehicle accident near the 12900 block of Crescent Valley Dr. NW around 10 p.m. Crews arrived to find the vehicle on its top and the driver, the only occupant, safely out. The driver was evaluated, treated and transported to a nearby hospital. Pierce County Sheriff’s office was on the scene handling the investigation.

March 5: Truck Fire — About 8 a.m. around Peacock Hill on 109th St Ct. NW, a truck was reported on fire. The caller was attempting to extinguish the flames. Firefighters arrived to find the fire knocked down and charring on the garage. Crews checked for extension into the garage and extinguished hot spots on the truck.
