Gig Harbor fire reports: A gas leak that wasn’t and a boat fire that wasn’t either

April 4: Vapor Leak — About 3:30 p.m., around the 4300 block of 19th Ave NW, a homeowner reported the strong smell of natural gas throughout the house with no signs of leak anywhere. Firefighters arrived to find the occupants evacuated and had opened windows. Crews canvassed the interior of the house with a 5-gas air monitor, checked the oven/stove, furnace, hot water heater, and gas fireplace. All were operating properly. The exterior gas meter was showing signs of a malfunction. Contact was made with Puget Sound Energy who would respond and investigate.
April 7: Beach Fire — A boat fire was reported by a passerby near the Purdy Bridge just after 5 a.m. The caller stated that there were flames and smoke from a small 10 to 12 foot boat. Firefighters arrived to find a small fire on the beach consisting of small logs and dried brush. The fire was extinguished by crews.
April 7: Two-car collision — Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was called to the scene of a two car, head-on collision at Wollochet Dr and Hunt St just after 4 p.m. Crews arrived to find the two cars blocking the intersection. Gig Harbor Police Department arrived at the same time, assisted with traffic control and started the accident investigation. Medics evaluated all three occupants of the vehicles, none of whom were transported.
April 8: Car into building — Firefighters responded to the report of a vehicle into a building around 2 p.m. in the 4800 block of Borgen Blvd. The vehicle was in a drive-through and accidently drove into the exterior wall of the building, causing moderate damage to the wall and minor damage to the vehicle. No one in the building or vehicle was injured in the accident.
