Fire reports: Man burning weeds with propane torch sets his yard on fire

April 24: Brush fire — A large brush fire was reported approximately 10 feet from a structure in the 6900 block of Sunset View Dr. just before 3:30 p.m. The fire started while a homeowner was using a propane torch to burn weeds along a driveway. The caller stated that the neighbor was attempting to extinguish eight large bushes on fire with a garden hose. When firefighters arrived, the flames were out. Crews used hand tools to create a fire line and a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots. The homeowner was advised to use a sprinkler to completely soak the area of the fire.

April 25: Triple rollover — A witness called 911 just before 8 a.m. with the report of a vehicle that had rolled approximately three times landing on its top in the ditch. Multiple callers had conflicting information as to the location of the vehicle. Fire department units located the vehicle in the ditch on State Route 16, west of Rosedale St., with evidence of a rollover accident. The driver had self-extricated from the vehicle and declined transport for further medical evaluation. Washington State Patrol arrived on the scene and performed the accident investigation.

April 25: Vehicle Fire — Police requested fire response for a vehicle on fire at the 6600 block of Wollochet Drive around midnight after a pursuit. When firefighters and medics arrived, the fire was out, the vehicle on its wheels, and into the landscaping. The driver and occupant were checked for injury and neither were transported for further care or treatment.

April 27: Motor Vehicle Accident — A vehicle went off the roadway on State Route 16, east of Burnham Drive, just after 12:30 a.m. The vehicle hit a guardrail, removing multiple posts, and reportedly went end over end, landing on its wheels. The two occupants were out of the vehicle and with a Washington State Patrol Officer upon the fire department’s arrival. One patient was transported to a nearby hospital. The other declined transport.
