Police blotter: A drunk’s new buddy, and how to almost get shot

His new best buddy

June 7 – A man arrested for drinking while driving was so intoxicated he could not be booked safely into jail, so an officer brought the man to a hospital for detox. The man walked into the emergency room after attempting to give the officer a hug and thanking him for being “so cool.”

Police pulled over the driver at 10:55 p.m. driving east on Borgen Boulevard toward Harbor Hill Drive. The driver struggled to roll down his window, pressing the unlock button multiple times before rolling down the window. The man told officers he had nothing to drink that night, and got into an argument with his “girl” and decided to go for a drive.

After failing the DUI tests, the man pleaded with the officer not to arrest him, as this would be his third DUI arrest which meant a year in prison. The officer advised the driver that the arrest was mandatory.

The man was given a criminal traffic summons and will be contacted by the Gig Harbor court.

How nearly to get shot

June 1 – When an officer approached a vehicle whose windows were covered with clothing and towels, the man in the car peeked his head out four times, the fourth time holding a black object in his hands. The officer yelled to the man to show his hands, and it was discovered he was holding his cell phone.

Police were dispatched at 1:31 a.m. to 38th Avenue off Hunt street, which is an area known for narcotic activity. The officer asked the man if he had any drugs, and the man looked at a small, brown bag for three to four seconds before responding “no.” After asking and getting permission to open the bag, the officer found a gold pill which contained meth.

When questioned, the man said he had been living in the wooded area for the past two nights, smoking meth. He was arrested and given a criminal citation. The meth pipe was destroyed on scene.
