July 3: Smoke in a Home — Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to the report of a residential fire just before 1 p.m. at the 2800 block of Moorlands Dr NW. Nothing was visible on arrival but an electrical odor was detected. Crews discovered some breakers tripped on the breaker panel. Upon further investigation, scorch marks were discovered on a furnace air filter and some melting was evident. The homeowner was advised to contact a company to service the furnace.
July 3: Small Brush Fire — A homeowner reported a bush on fire at their home around 2 p.m in the 7500 block of Stinson Ave. The caller stated the fire was likely started by a construction torch or hot tar and was currently being contained with a garden hose. Firefighters confirmed the fire was out.
July 3: Collision with Entrapment — A vehicle went off the road into a tree just after 9:30 p.m. at 144th and Crescent Valley Dr. NW. Multiple reports came in, some stating that the occupant was not moving and trapped in the vehicle with bystanders attempting to break the windows to gain access. Firefighters and medics arrived and were able to extricate the driver, who was taken to a hospital.
July 4: Fireworks into house — A neighborhood fireworks display malfunctioned, sending a firework through the window of a residence. The firework went through a screen and two panes of glass, landing on the carpet inside the home. The call came in just before 10 p.m. from the 1800 block of 153rd St Ct NW. Other than the broken window, damage was limited to a burn mark in the carpet.
July 4: Brush Fire — A brush fire in blackberry bushes was reported just after 2:30 a.m. in the area of 60th Ave Ct and Cromwell Dr NW. Firefighters extinguished an area of approximately 10 by 20 feet. The source of the fire was unknown.
July 5: Collision — Fire department units responded to a two car T-bone-type collision just before noon in front of the Washington Correction Center for Women on Bujacich Rd NW. Crews set up a safe work zone. Both drivers were evaluated and declined further care. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
July 7: Car through fence — Firefighters and medics were dispatched around 11:15 a.m. to Hollycroft St for a vehicle that drove through a fence around a parking lot. The vehicle came to rest on its nose about 8 feet down an embankment. Both occupants of the vehicle got themselves out, and medics evaluated and treated them. Neither was transported for further care. Gig Harbor Police Department handled the investigation.
