Police blotter: An old acquaintance of police, and a combative hospital patient
Troublesome transient
July 12 – A man refused to leave an area, urinating in front of a store. He then began making statements about guns and shooting the police.
Police were dispatched at 11:10 p.m. to the 5100 block of Point Fosdick Drive where police recognized the man refusing to leave as a well-known transient. After being approached by police, the man refused to speak or listen.
The man was escorted from the area and was given a “no trespass” warning.
Angry patient on drugs
July 13 – A woman with a broken arm began yelling at hospital staff in the waiting area of St. Anthony Hospital. She was using vulgar language, and at one point threw the blood pressure cuff at one of the nurses.
Police were dispatched at 11:47 p.m. to the 11500 block of Canterwood Boulevard where the woman began to get upset due to the long wait to see a doctor. The hospital supervisor told police they offered to take her in the back room to see a doctor, but the patient refused. The patient was then asked to leave, but she refused again.
Police attempted to calm the patient down, but the woman began yelling at the police. She was forcefully removed from the hospital, but once they reached the outside of the building the woman flopped onto the ground, refusing to move. The woman appeared to be high on drugs.
Due to the woman’s inability to care for herself, the woman was involuntarily committed. She was brought back into the hospital and surrendered into the hospital’s care. After treatment, she was escorted out of the hospital by police and was advised she was not allowed back on the premises.
