Covid-19 cases in Gig Harbor now at 168; Key Peninsula has 42; Daily rate down slightly
Confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 168 in the Gig Harbor area this week, and to 42 on the Key Peninsula. There were three new deaths Thursday, two in Puyallup and on in South Pierce County, and one new death Friday, a woman in her 90s in Frederickson.
However, overall in Pierce County, new cases showed a decline from the high in late July.
On Friday, August 21, the Tacoma Pierce-County Health Department reported totals of 6,310 cases and 139 deaths since the pandemic began in March.
Pierce County added 879 cases in the last 14 days for an average of 63 a day. This is a decrease from the previous two-week period.
On the Peninsula, the North Gig Harbor/Canterwood area (Census Tract 072505) continued to have the highest number of active cases, with 38. The Wollochet area (Census Tract 072408) had 30, the Artondale area (Census Tract 072405) had 16 and Fox Island had 13.
On the Key Peninsula, the Purdy/Wauna area had 19 active cases.
Countywide, newer cases continued to be among younger people.The 20-39 age group has the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 38.7% in the last two weeks.
