A water rescue leads Gig Harbor firefighters’ calls

Aug. 16: Water Rescue — A collision of two personal water craft sent one to the hospital. Crews arrived to find the driver of one PWC on a dock needing medical attention. After assessing and treating the patient on scene, medics transported one person to the hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Aug. 17: Trash bin fire — Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was dispatched to a residential fire around the 9300 block of 86th Avenue NW just after 4 p.m. Trash next to a trash bin had caught fire and flames began moving up the side of the house. A witness quickly grabbed a garden hose and began extinguishing the flames. No extension was found by use of a thermal imaging camera. Firefighters continued to cool and drench the affected area and ventilate the home. An air monitor was used to canvass the interior of the home to ensure safety for the occupants.
Aug. 18: Unoccupied crash — Firefighters arrived around 9:45 a.m. in the 4300 block of 144th Street NW to find an unoccupied vehicle that had left the roadway and sustained minor damage. Crews checked for occupants, found none, and secured the vehicle. Upon investigation, the vehicle owner stated thatit was wrecked that morning, had law enforcement out to the scene, and was having it towed.
Aug. 19: Brush Fire — Multiple calls came in around 1:00 p.m. reporting a small brush fire on the side of State Route 16 near Olympic Drive. The fire spread into the trees and engulfed a power pole by the time firefighters were able to extinguish the flames. Gig Harbor Police arrived on the scene and closed the Cushman Trail to the public. A firewatch continued into the night. No source of ignition was found.
