Police blotter: A break-in at school HQ, and a stolen license plate on a sketchy car

School district break-in

Aug. 21 – An unknown suspect broke into the Peninsula School District office, rummaging through all the drawers and stealing a laptop and master key.

Police were dispatched at 8:07 p.m. to the 5800 block of Soundview Drive where the reporting party informed police that the suspect pried open and climbed through a small window. The alarm company received an intruder alarm at 3:09 a.m. but the police were not notified.

There is a security camera outside the front entrance, but it was having a software issue and may not have been recording at the time of the incident.

Stolen license, keyless car

Aug. 22 – A stolen license plate led to a court violation for a man police said was a well-known gang member.

Police were patrolling a well-known shoplifting area at 6:34 p.m. at the 5100 block of Borgen Boulevard when they noticed a license plate had a tinted cover. A check revealed the license plate had been reported as stolen.

The driver said he purchased the vehicle but was unable to provide officers with any proof of ownership. The ignition switch was hanging open below the steering column.

The vehicle was towed from the scene. The license plates were booked into evidence. The man was released and told he will receive a summons for court.
