Police blotter: Impulse shoplifting, and a fight over bridge tolls that took a nasty turn
Impulse shopping
Aug. 26 – A woman attempted to steal a $150 camera from a store but was caught by staff. She was escorted back inside the building to await an officer’s arrival.
Police were dispatched at 8:00 p.m. to the 10900 block of Harbor Hill Drive, where the woman admitted to police that she took the camera out of its packaging. She placed the camera in her purse and the packaging back on the shelf. Then, she continued to select several other items and placed them in her shopping cart.
The woman noticed she was being watched by staff, so she abandoned her cart and went to the concession stand to buy a soda. She then ran out of the building but was caught and escorted back by staff. The woman told police she had no intention of stealing the camera when she first entered the store.
The woman was placed in handcuffs and escorted from the store. She was told she will be receiving a court date and was released.
Beaten over bridge tolls
Aug. 28 – A dispute over unpaid bridge tolls led to an altercation at a fast food restaurant. The manager of the restaurant was beaten up, resulting in a possible concussion and bruises over his eyes and face.
Police were dispatched at 11:21 p.m. to the 5100 block of Point Fosdick Drive where the altercation took place The manager of the store purchased a car from an acquaintance, then gave it back to him. The man who received the car was enraged when he discovered there were $500 in bridge tolls that the restaurant owner had not paid
The man asked the manager to pay them, but the manager refused, saying he gave the car to the man for free.
The man and his younger brother arrived at the fast food restaurant. The brother began hitting the manager, and a dagger fell out of the pocket of the younger brother. This was kicked away and not used during the fight.
Police arrived and booked the younger brother at Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center. Criminal charges were forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor. The younger brother was then released back to his mother.
