Gig Harbor firefighters lend a hand in battling big Graham wildfire

Sept. 5: Rear-end accident

Gig Harbor Fire units were dispatched to a rear-end motor vehicle collision around 5:00 p.m. in the 5500 block of 38th Avenue. Crews arrived to find one vehicle with moderate damage partially blocking a lane. The other vehicle involved was in a nearby parking lot. All occupants were medically assessed. None of the three required transport for further treatment.

Sept. 8 Tree down across cars

Firefighters responded to a call from Harbor Country Apartments around 6:30 a.m. A tree fell on top of three cars due to extreme wind conditions. Firefighters arrived and found a broken tree lying across four vehicles and confirmed no occupants or injuries. Crews assisted in cutting limbs from some of the tree to allow vehicle owners to access their vehicles.

Sept. 8: Electrical explosion and brush fire

Citizens close to the 3300 block of Hunt Street heard a large bang and saw sparks coming from a power pole just before 8:00 a.m. The sparks caught the power pole and surrounding grass on fire. When firefighters arrived, bystanders were putting water on the brush with a garden hose. The fire was extinguished and Peninsula Light Company was notified.

Sept. 8: Mutual aid for Graham fire

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One provided mutual aid to help fight a large brush fire during a large wind event near the 15400 block of 240th St. E in Graham just after midnight. The fire was approximately 100 acres in size and destroyed several homes.

Sept. 8: Brush fire

Multiple reports came in about a grass fire at Goodman Middle School around 11:00 a.m. Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the fire before any of the surrounding area was affected.
