Sept. 11: Two-alarm house fire
Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to a two-alarm house fire at 10 p.m. in the 13400 block of 53rd Avenue NW, in the Canterwood neighborhood. When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the back of the home and immediately struck a second alarm. The fire was well involved and spread rapidly throughout the attic space, forcing the crews to fight the fire defensively. It took crews over an hour to control the blaze. Mutual aid was received from South Kitsap Fire and West Pierce Fire & Rescue. The fire appeared to originate from the back of the house. It was unknown if the home was occupied at the time of the fire and there were no known injuries. The Pierce County Fire Marshal is investigating.
Sept. 12: Car over embankment
Firefighters and medics were called to the scene of a vehicle over an embankment at the 4600 block of 56th St NW around 7:30 a.m. Crews investigated and found one car over the edge of the road in steep terrain surrounded by thorn bushes with the airbags deployed. The vehicle, and a large area surrounding it were checked with a thermal imaging camera with no occupants found. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene investigating.
Sept. 14: Broken gas line
A contractor building a fence in the 1800 block of Clorindi Circle hit a gas line going to the house just before 10:30 a.m. Firefighters cleared the area of occupants and pets, as well as the adjacent address. Puget Sound Energy arrived to repair the broken gas line.
