Police blotter: Purloined sex toys, and an offer that wasn’t from Apple

Hankering for sex toys

Sept. 14 – A man stashed three sex toys in his shirt and sneaked out of a store. Police, who were in the store, caught the man sitting in his van.

Police were initially dispatched at 7:51 p.m. to the 5100 block of Borgen Boulevard where a man was seen acting suspiciously in a store. After seeing the police the man left, but an officer followed him to another store, located at 11400 block of 51st Avenue. This is where the man tried to steal the three sex toys.

Confronted in his van, the man admitted to having the sex toys. The man had a capped needle in his pocket. He was given a citation and a trespass warning.

Computer ‘repair’ scam

Sept. 17 – A woman told police she received a call from what she thought was Apple support. The caller said they can fix the woman’s computer and asked her to pay using a store gift card. The woman bought and gave the caller the gift card number.

Police were dispatched at 11:00 a.m. to the 3500 block after the woman realized the caller was a scammer. Her computer was not working, so she believed the caller when they said they were from Apple support.

When the woman’s computer was not repaired, she grew suspicious. The caller told her they would refund her the gift card amount, but in the meantime she should buy another gift card. This is when she realized it was a scam.

The woman suspects the scammer tapped her phone and possibly her computer. The officer advised the woman to contact both the Apple store and her bank. The officer was given the scammer’s number.
