Fire reports: Accidents, a stuck elevator and a dumpster fire keep firefighters on the run

Sept. 22: T-Bone collision— Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was dispatched to the intersection of 38th Avenue and Hunt Street around 5:30 p.m. for a two-vehicle T-bone type collision. Crews arrived to find the vehicles on the side of the road, one against an embankment. Each vehicle was occupied by two people. Medics evaluated the patients and no transports were required. GHPD arrived on the scene to complete their investigation.
Sept. 21: Highway Accident — Firefighters and medics were called around 4:00 p.m. to State Route 16 around the Wollochet exit, where there was a report of a two-car collision. No injuries were reported. Crews worked with Washington State Patrol to provide a safe work zone and clear the roadway.
Sept. 21: Stuck in elevator — An alarm was sounding around 2:30 p.m. in an elevator at Milgard Medical Pavilion at St. Anthony Hospital. A security guard reported that two people were stuck in the elevator between floors. Firefighters made contact with the occupants to confirm no medical aid was required. Crews cycled the power to the elevator to reset it. The occupants were then able to exit the elevator car. It was recommended to take the elevator out of service until a technician could evaluate.
Sept. 21: Dumpster Fire — Neighbors called in with concerns that there was burning occurring at a construction site in the 1300 block of Kamus Way just before 9:30 p.m. Crews arrived to find an 8’x30’x5’ construction dumpster with its contents on fire. Firefighters extinguished the flames and confirmed the fire was out and no spot fires in the brush with a thermal imaging camera. The fire was reported to the fire marshal.
