Guy in car with flashing lights was not a cop
Pulled over by a fake cop
Gig Harbor police went to the area of Briarwood Lane in Gig Harbor on Feb. 5 after a report of a suspicious vehicle with a driver impersonating a law enforcement officer. The reporting party said a Mazda pulled up behind him, activated red and blue lights, and pulled him over to the side of the road. The driver said he was confused and suspicious. When the suspect exited his vehicle, the man drove away, fearing for his safety. The suspect pursued, and the driver said he nearly made contact with his vehicle. The driver said he has video of the incident. He identified the suspect as having ginger hair and being in his late 20s to early 30s.
Police say they ran the plates and found a suspect that matched the description. They also discovered a Washington State Patrol field report identifying the suspect parking on the shoulder of a highway ramp with the same lights. A criminal citation was issued to the suspect for criminal impersonation in the second degree.
High-speed chase on Harbor Hill
Police say they were in a high-speed chase on February 2 that started at the Target at 11400 51st Ave. NW and ended when a suspect’s vehicle crashed into a ravine east of Harbor Hill Drive. Police say they first noticed the vehicle, a black sedan, when it was driving erratically at the Target and sped away. They followed the vehicle at speeds of 60 miles per hour on a roadway that was both dark and rainy. Eventually the car slid off the road, where it collided with a large tree trunk.
Police say the suspects, a male and a female, both suffered minor injuries. The suspects were subsequently taken to the hospital to assess their injuries. The female suspect had a visible abrasion on her head and said she was experiencing neck pain.
The male suspect had a previous warrant for assault in the second degree and police say that is why he said he fled.
The male suspect, who claimed to be driving, was cited for a variety of violations, including not having license plates, no proof of insurance, failing to stop at a stop sign, operating a vehicle without a headlight, and a defective tail light.
