Gig Harbor’s lighted car parade is back.

For the second year, Gig Harbor drivers will decorate their vehicles and put on a show downtown.

“We hope it will be as great as it was in 2020,” organizer Kimber Lawrence said via email.

This year’s parade will be at 4:30 pm. Dec. 18.

Drivers who want to join the festivities need to meet at 4 p.m. at Uptown Gig Harbor, in the MultiCare parking lot that’s across from Fondi Pizzeria, according to the Facebook page for the event. That’s when routes will be given out and vehicles will be assigned numbers.

“We suggest having someone ride along to guide the driver,” organizers wrote.

Motorcycles can also join.

“Bikes and dog walkers are not advised,” the Facebook page said. “However, we would love to have you come watch and join in on the festivities along the two routes ... .”

The decorated cars will be in the HomeGoods south parking lot afterward for people to see.

More information, including an example of a power inverter drivers can use to plug in their lights, is available at facebook.com/Gigharborlightedcarparade.

There were 77 cars last year, more are expected this year, and there will be prizes for the one that’s best decorated, according to the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce website. There will also be carolers and other festivities, the site said.

There’s a toy and food drive associated with the parade. They collected 3,755 food items and 464 toys for Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank and Community Services last year, according to the website.

Donations can be dropped off the day of the parade at Uptown near the pavilion from noon to 8 p.m. Neighborhoods and businesses can also organize collections and get specialized flyers by messaging the Facebook page.
