The 2021 Gig Harbor tree lighting is almost here.

Festivities start at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Skansie Brothers Park, 3211 Harborview Dr.

As a result of the pandemic, there won’t be hot chocolate at the Skansie Netshed like some years.

There will be a candy cane toss, and Santa will be there, city spokesperson Laura Pettitt said.

She also said the Acapella Soundsations, a group of 12 to 15, will perform.

“We love singing and making chords ring. We are a women’s barbershop style chorus,” the group’s Facebook page says.

Then the mayor and Santa will start the countdown to light the tree.

The city’s Public Works team was in the process of getting an evergreen from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Mayor Kit Kuhn wrote in his Nov. 22 blog.

Masks are encouraged at the event, and would be required by public health guidelines if attendance reaches 500.

Those who want to watch from home can see the lighting broadcast on the city’s Facebook page, Pettitt said. That’s facebook.com/CityofGigHarbor.
