Gig Harbor drivers: Construction work will means delays, detour. Here’s what to know

Gig Harbor drivers should expect long delays when construction starts at the end of the month at the intersection of Harborview Drive and Stinson Avenue, city officials said in a news release.

The work, which paused for the winter in October, starts back up Feb. 28. Crews will work into the summer.

They’ll close southbound Harborview from North Harborview Drive to Stinson Avenue, which means there will be a detour for drivers.

“Please expect long traffic delays, slower speeds, and lane shifts during this time,” the news release said. “Use alternate routes when possible.”

Pedestrians will have a detour during the construction, which might be rerouted throughout the project.

“The construction team has been made aware of summer events and happenings downtown and will work to lessen impacts whenever possible,” the news release said.

The first part of the project moved sewer, water and stormwater pipes. Now crews will regrade the intersection and put in a new roundabout and “pedestrian improvements,” among other work, according to the city’s project website.

Residents can sign up for notifications and can get updates about the work at https://www.cityofgigharbor.net/232/Active-Projects.
