Do you want a roundabout on this part of the Key Peninsula? Pierce County is asking

Pierce County officials are looking at ways to improve a Key Peninsula intersection, and they’re asking for input.

“We invite the community to review the intersection options and provide feedback on which one they prefer,” Letticia Neal, P.E., the Pierce County Planning and Public Works Department’s Transportation Improvement Section manager, said in a news release.

The project is at the intersection of Key Peninsula Highway, Lackey Road and Jackson Lake Road Northwest.

“The intersection handles all traffic traveling north and south through the area,” the news release said. “Pierce County is exploring six potential alternatives to reconfigure the intersection, such as converting the intersection to a single-lane roundabout or creating two separate intersections.”

Pierce County has an online open house and survey about the project at www.piercecountywa.gov/keypenroads until March 31.

Once county officials get that feedback, they’ll move forward with a plan. Preliminary engineering will start by December, but beyond that the timing is uncertain.

“There is currently no funding for right-of-way acquisitions or construction for this project, so a construction timeline has not been set,” the news release said.
