Gig Harbor officer shoots at suspect while serving no-contact order at Purdy-area home

A Gig Harbor police officer shot at a suspect Tuesday afternoon while serving a no-contact order. No one was injured.

Gig Harbor officers were helping the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department serve the order, according to a news release from the police department.

About 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, the officers arrived in the 6400 block of 154th Street Northwest and encountered a 35-year-old “uncooperative male who retreated into his mobile home,” according to the news release.

Then the man, who was getting served the no-contact order, came out of the home and pointed a shotgun at two officers, the release said, and: “One officer shot at the suspect, who was not hit.”

The officer who shot at the suspect is on paid administrative leave, per procedure.

The suspect then fled behind a nearby home, where he was taken into custody. Officers booked him into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

This is the second time in the department’s history that a Gig Harbor officer has shot at a suspect, Busey said. The other shooting was in 2018.
