This project will install natural gas line in Gig Harbor. Expect noise, traffic delays
Puget Sound Energy is about to start construction in Gig Harbor that the company says will make its natural gas system in the area more reliable.
The project begins Sept. 1 and is planned to run for three months.
Natural gas crews from PSE and InfraSource will be installing about 1.2 miles of new natural gas line. The work is intended to increase the resiliency of PSE’s existing system, the company said.
“We’re installing 1.2 miles of natural gas main to provide the capability to back up peak gas supply to the local area. The improvement project is particularly important to strengthen the PSE system for cold weather events,” Bryan Johnston, major projects communications consultant for PSE, told The Gateway.
Typical work hours for the project will be Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Work will begin on 96th Street Northwest, continuing along Burnham Road and Harborview Drive and finishing northwest of Donkey Creek Park.
In the coming weeks PSE will send out an announcement detailing when to expect construction work along the route as the project progresses, Carly Ray, communications initiatives program manager for PSE told The Gateway.
In the company’s initial Aug. 19 announcement, they said there will be intermittent traffic delays throughout the project, and there will likely be noise from trucks and heavy machinery during work hours. Signs and flaggers will help guide drivers and pedestrians.
The Cushman Trail will remain open during construction.
