Medical examiner identifies man who died in wreck with garbage truck near Gig Harbor
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who died in a wreck near Gig Harbor last month.
The two-vehicle, head-on wreck happened about 10:45 a.m. Nov. 28 in the 14800 block of 118th Avenue Northwest, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department blotter online.
Robert McNeill, a 33-year-old man from Bremerton, died in the wreck, according to a news release from the Medical Examiner Dec. 13.
“The driver of a work van collided head on with a garbage truck that was picking up a trash can,” the blotter said. “The driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Darren Moss, public information officer for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, said it appears McNeill was speeding and crossed into the opposite lane, where he hit the parked garbage truck head-on.
The driver of the garbage truck was a 29-year-old man from Puyallup, Moss told the Gateway. He had no reported injuries, the blotter said.
