High tide, heavy rains flood Gig Harbor area, photos show. Crews respond to emergencies
A high tide and heavy rain flooded Gig Harbor Tuesday morning.
Around 9 a.m. the Gig Harbor Police Department tweeted photos of the king tide around the harbor.
A king tide is an especially high tide that brings unusually high water levels and can cause local tidal flooding.
Not much was impacted by flooding within the city limits of Gig Harbor, Police Chief Kelly Busey told the Gateway.
Net Shed No. 9 down on the waterfront experienced some flooding and possible electrical issues, he said.
“The major action is in Purdy,” he said.
Around 9 a.m. this morning Gig Harbor Fire responded to flooding and a fire at Bridgeway Market in Purdy.
GHFD tweeted the fire was put out just after 10:30 a.m and that displaced residents were working with the Red Cross.
The fire agency tweeted about 10:30 a.m.: “Our crews are responding to many flooding-related emergencies within the district, some including electrical fires.”
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for between 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Winds could reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.
Busey warned residents via twitter to “prepare for potential power outages and downed trees.”
