This downtown bank branch is closing west of the Narrows. Here’s what’s happening
Those who use the Umpqua Bank in downtown Gig Harbor will need to make the trip to a different branch soon.
On Friday, June 9, the Umpqua Bank at 3123 56th St. will permanently close, according to Umpqua’s website.
The moves come after the recent merger of Umpqua and Columbia Bank.
“In March of 2023, Columbia and Umpqua combined two of the Pacific Northwest’s premier financial institutions under the Umpqua Bank brand to create one of the largest banks headquartered in the West and a top-30 U.S. bank,” the website said.
Umpqua is based in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Columbia remains headquartered in Tacoma.
All branches of the combined company will operate as Umpqua Bank.
“Due to the overlap between some retail locations in our footprint, there will be some consolidation or closing of locations,” Umpqua’s website said.
Kurt Heath, a spokesperson for Umpqua confirmed this to be the case at the downtown branch.
Beginning June 10, customers should use the 5303 Point Fosdick Dr. NW location.
Heath said the Point Fosdick location is a former Columbia branch.
“Prior to the merger, Umpqua and Columbia had complementary footprints, meaning our recent combination strengthens Umpqua Bank’s overall presence, especially in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Northern California, and provides greater convenience for our customers,” Heath said. “There is some branch overlap in places like Gig Harbor as a result of the merger. We’ve focused on consolidating branches in close proximity to each other to minimize any impact on associates, customers, and communities.”
