A much-anticipated restaurant just opened west of the Narrows. It’s not a prank this time

Key Peninsula residents can now enjoy margaritas and tacos at 2 Margaritas.

And no, this is not a joke. It’s open.

In 2020, cousins and the owners of 2 Margaritas, Ricardo Sahagun and Edgar Anaya, bought the former Lulu’s Homeport Restaurant and Lounge in Lakebay.

The building at 1509 Key Peninsula Highway Northwest underwent a remodel, and permit and supply delays pushed back the opening of the local Mexican chain restaurant, the Key Peninsula News reported in 2021.

They have other locations in Allyn, Union, and on Vashon Island, The News Tribune previously reported.

It’s been three years. Now the wait to walk through the doors to the Key Peninsula location is over.

The owners were not immediately available for comment, but Anaya confirmed via text to the Gateway that they opened the doors Thursday, July 6.

In 2020, the owners of the local Mexican chain restaurant announced they’d be expanding to the Key Peninsula. The doors are officially open.

Facebook users are excited about the opening, and one customer was excited about the restaurant’s fish tacos and peach margaritas. It looked like the restaurant was busy Thursday night.

Stephanie Bryan drove by yesterday. Her video on Facebook shows balloons lining the property, a sign that said “now open,” and a packed parking lot.

It’s not a prank this time. The opening has been much-anticipated by locals, who threw an April fools taco party in the parking lot earlier this year, complete with a fake opening sign.

Further information was not immediately available. Check back for updates.
