New grocery store owners west of the Narrows celebrate grand opening with tacos, kids day

A Key Peninsula market has new owners, a new name, and the same staff.

The Key Center IGA made its official debut Wednesday, July 19 at 9021 Key Peninsula Highway NW.

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m daily.

Key IGA posted on Facebook that they’re celebrating their grand opening with two weeks of activities and specials from July 19 to Aug. 1.

They’re having taco Tuesdays at 11 a.m. each week. They’ll serve jumbo tacos while supplies last.

Kid’s day is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29. They’ll have games, prizes, a bouncy house and face painting.

The space was formerly known as the Food Market at Key Center, which saw new ownership earlier this year.

Don Stolz retired and sold both the Food Markets at Key Center and Lake Kathryn to the Myers Group, according to Key IGA on Facebook.

“The Myers Group President, Tyler Myers, and Mr. Stolz have known each other for a long time,” Key IGA wrote on Facebook. “When we were approached about purchasing, we agreed, and brought the store under the IGA umbrella like the other stores we have in WA. A few nice changes like (lowering) prices on over 5,000 items, more customer communication about savings, a new smoked meat station, and a few new products. The best news is we have the same amazing employees and management at the store!”

The Myers Group took over ownership on March 6, store manager Kip Bonds told the Gateway Tuesday, July 25.

Although residents have been able to shop at the IGA since then, the remodel of the store just finished, according to Bonds.

The Myers Group will convert the Lake Kathryn store into an Ace Hardware with a small section of groceries, according to their Facebook page.

“As we convert the Lake Kathryn Food Market to a combination ACE Hardware & Grocery, we need inventory gone! Find thousands of items marked 20% off,” Key IGA wrote on Facebook June 24.

“The Myers Group is a family business also, and operates other IGA grocery stores in Juneau, Alaska, North Albany, Oregon, and our Washington stores in Darrington, Camano Island, Whidbey Island, and Ocean Shores,” according to the Key IGA Facebook page.
