UPS reduces mail service west of the Narrows. Here’s what we know about the new schedule
United Parcel Service (UPS) alerted Key Peninsula residents of a new service reduction.
An announcement emailed to residents who are affected said UPS will no longer provide pick-up and delivery services on Mondays and Wednesdays in some areas, beginning Aug. 21.
The Gateway reached out to UPS. A representative for the company declined to provide the specific ZIP codes affected.
The Gateway asked residents in a Key Peninsula Facebook group Tuesday which ZIP codes received the email. They said residents in these ZIP codes received the message that the change would affect them.
- 98351 - Longbranch, Taylor Bay
- 98329 -Wauna, Vaughn, Glencove, Sunshine Beach, Minter, and Lake Kathryn Village
98349 - Lakebay, Home, and Herron
For Longbranch residents, the closest UPS store is just over 20 miles away in Gig Harbor at 11010 Harbor Hill.
“We are consolidating deliveries in certain ZIP codes to help our drivers more efficiently serve our customers,” a UPS statement to the Gateway said.
Any packages that would have been picked up or delivered on a Monday or Wednesday will spend an extra day in transit, according to the statement.
“This affects less than one-half of one percent of our deliveries every day, so the vast majority of our customers will not experience any difference in the service they receive,” the statement said. “Critical healthcare deliveries will not be affected. We are constantly evaluating and modifying our network, and we remain committed to providing our customers with the most reliable and efficient service wherever they live and work.”
