Your dog can get toys, friends, and microchipped for free at this Pierce County fair
Dog owners can bring their furry friends to Skansie Brother’s Park this weekend for a day of playful fun in Gig Harbor.
Pups of all shapes, sizes and breeds are invited to join the activities at the annual Harbor Hounds community fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday, Sept. 9, at 3211 Harborview Dr.
The fair raises money for community charities and brings hound owners together. It’s hosted by the Gig Harbor Midday Rotary.
You can register your pup for $20 online at harborhounds.com/registration-2/, or in-person starting at 9:30 a.m.
“Each registered dog receives a doggie bandana and a wag bag filled with coupons, giveaways, toys and gadgets provided by the participating sponsors,” according to the event website.
The event itself is free, but if you’d like to enter your pup into any of the contests, it will cost $20.
Categories include best tail-wager, best kisser (the dog!), best tricks and a musical sit and stay contest.
Registered dogs won’t have to pay any additional costs to enter the contests.
Mayor Tracie Markley will be one of the judges.
Vendors, food trucks, live music, and other activities will be set up, such as a dog agility course and face painting for kids.
You can also join a dog walk at any point throughout the day. Before taking a leisurely walk along the waterfront with your pup, you’ll get an entry card stamped. At the end of the walk, turn in your card for a chance to win prizes.
“You can even get your dog microchipped at Harbor Hounds this year compliments of NorthWest Wag Rescue,” the Harbor Hounds website said.
NorthWest Wag Rescue said on Instagram that the microchipping will be free.
