Traffic and school drop-off will be affected by this three-week project in Gig Harbor
The city of Gig Harbor will close part of Prentice Avenue for crews to work on the main gas line starting Dec. 19.
Drivers can expect to see lane closures on Prentice Avenue from Fennimore Street to Woodworth Avenue, according to a city of Gig Harbor Facebook post.
Work will go through Jan. 3, the post said.
Each day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. crews from Puget Sound Energy will work to replace the gas line.
Crews will take a break Dec. 22 through Dec. 25, according to the Facebook post.
Most of the work will take place during Peninsula School District’s winter break, but there will be a few days when pick-up and drop-off will be affected at Harbor Ridge Middle School.
“Parent drop-off and pick-up will not be allowed December 18-20 on Prentice Ave from Fennimore St to Harbor Ridge Middle School,” according to the city’s post.
The Gateway asked Peninsula School District what parents need to do.
Parents dropping off their kids will need to use Franklin Avenue, Shana Nash, a spokesperson for PSD, told the Gateway on Wednesday.
Franklin Avenue will take drivers to Fuller Street, which parents should take to the top of the hill where they can drop off their kids.
Same goes for pick-up.
Buses also will use this detour.
The school told parents in message Tuesday that they might want to considering carpooling during the road work to reduce congestion, according to Nash.
