Man hit by car in Gig Harbor Tuesday has died from his injuries, according to police

A 57-year-old man was hit by a car in Gig Harbor Tuesday morning. He died from his injuries at a hospital Tuesday afternoon.

At 6:07 a.m. a Mercedes Benz SUV was traveling northbound on Point Fosdick Drive, Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey told the Gateway.

The driver of the vehicle was a 54-year-old woman.

She hit the man near the 4800 block of Point Fosdick Drive, according to Busey.

The man was wearing dark clothing and was in the lane of travel, he said. At this time they do not know whether the man was standing in the lane or trying to cross.

Just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the Gig Harbor Police Department told drivers in a Facebook post to expect traffic near Uptown because of the collision. The northbound lane of Point Fodsick Drive at 48th Street was closed until 8:40 a.m., according to the post.

Busey said the man was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, where he died from his injuries Tuesday afternoon.

The driver, who stayed at the scene until law enforcement arrived, was not arrested and is not suspected of any crime, Busey said.
