“At 12:20 p.m., we had a large fire response to a reported commercial structure fire at the Galaxy Movie Theater,” they said in the post. “Upon arrival, we found an evacuated building and a small kitchen fire that was out. Crews are currently investigating for any fire spread.”

The picture posted by GHFMO showed a small group of about 20 people who evacuated.

The general manager at the theater, Kay May, told the Gateway there was no fire and that it was a false alarm. She said they “evacuated the building as a precaution until we were cleared by the fire department to let everyone back in.”

As of 1:20 p.m. the theater is operating normally, May said.

Tina Curran, a spokesperson for GHFMO told the Gateway the heavy fire response was standard protocol for a commercial fire and that there were no reported injuries.

She said theater staff originally thought they had smelled a fire.

Curran said crews did not see or smell smoke while there. They checked the deep fryers, which didn’t show signs of a fire.

The exact cause has not been determined yet, but it’s safe to say this was a “false alarm” of some sort, Curran said.

All fire engines returned back to service as of 12:50 p.m., Curran said.
