Traffic alert: Crash on state Route 16 causes backups on Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Drivers should expect traffic backups for miles on part of westbound state route 16 Monday evening.

A wreck in the westbound lanes of the Narrows Bridge happened around 4 p.m., according to a post on X from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The WSDOT post showed at least three vehicles were involved.

Crews and tow trucks arrived around 4:30 p.m., WSDOT officials said in the post.

Two westbound lanes were closed on the bridge until the scene was cleared around 5 p.m.

As of 5 p.m. all lanes have reopened, according to a post by WSDOT.

“It will take some time for traffic to clear,” WSDOT officials said in the post.

The WSDOT travel map showed traffic backed up for about 5 miles.
