Over 20,000 people west of the Narrows Bridge were without power Tuesday.

According to the Peninsula Light Company’s Outage Map, the outage occurred just after 11 a.m..

Pen Light posted on X, formerly know as Twitter, that “it appears to be a Tacoma transmission problem,” and, “Crews and staff are working as quickly as possible to remedy the situation.”

Britni Wickens, a spokesperson for Pen Light said they later learned the outage was the result from a car accident in Gig Harbor where the car hit a transmission pole, causing a system-wide outage.

Pen Light said on X at 1:30 p.m. it could be another six to eight hours before power is fully restored because crews need to install a new pole. As of 2:30 p.m. just under 5,000 were still without power.

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One was not available for an immediate comment.

Most of the schools in Peninsula School District are without power, Shana Nash, a spokesperson for PSD told the Gateway.

As of right now PSD is not changing any of it’s operations, she said.
