Popular Pierce County cake shop stops taking orders. Here’s where you can find their cakes

Harbor Cakes, a homemade dessert shop which describes itself as “Gig Harbor’s Crafting Cakery,” has stopped taking new orders, according to a social media post Oct. 14.

”It is with mixed emotions and much consideration, I have decided to discontinue all orders for my cake business,” Harbor Cakes owner Katie Wright posted on Facebook. “For the time being, while I will not be directly taking new orders, you can still purchase through Metropolitan Market in Proctor.”

Harbor Cakes’ website shows an array of delicately-decorated desserts for holidays, birthdays, weddings and other occasions. Options range from classic vanilla cakes to vegan and gluten-free choices, plus “dessert charcuterie boards” and popsicle-shaped mini cakes, or “cakesicles.” The business also took custom orders. Everything is made from scratch.

They also ran an ice cream cart and sold wholesale to local businesses, and donated several hundreds of desserts to local fundraisers and the Tacoma Rescue Mission, according to the post.

“Love what you did for our wedding cake. So many people still talk about it,” one user commented below the post.

“Your gluten free items were amazing and will be missed!” another posted.

Wright started baking cakes around 2017, starting with a cake shaped like a Coach purse for her mother-in-law’s 60th birthday. As she learned new recipes and techniques, orders from friends and family started coming in.

She eventually partnered with the Harbor General Store to sell her desserts and provide refrigerator space for pick-up orders. After the Harbor General Store closed in March last year, she moved her pick-up spot to Kimball Coffeehouse at 6659 Kimball Dr. She told The News Tribune last year she was hoping to have her own space someday.

A mom of four, Wright baked all her desserts from home and turned her formal dining room into a second kitchen licensed by the state Department of Agriculture, The News Tribune reported. She also hired two other staff members.

“Here we take whatever dreams and visions our customers have and turn them into edible works of art,” the Harbor Cakes website says.
