Update: Power restored Thursday to 5,700 in Gig Harbor area after equipment failure

Update:

Peninsula Light Company posted on X at about 6:05 p.m. Thursday saying that power would be restored to remaining customers within the hour and repairs were nearing completion.

Initial post:

Power is out Thursday for about 5,700 people in the Gig Harbor area after an equipment failure at a facility which supplies power to people in the area, according to the Peninsula Light Company.

“Crew onsite and dispatch working on switching to restore as many as possible until repairs are complete,” the company posted on X at about 4:25 p.m. Thursday.

An outage map shows that areas in downtown Gig Harbor, areas near Rosedale Street Northwest and areas near Hunt Street are among those affected.

PenLight has eight different substations, one of which is in Gig Harbor, that supply power to different areas, according to Peninsula Light Company spokesperson Britni Wickens.

She said updates will be posted on social media.
