A fire broke out at a two-story abandoned home on the Key Peninsula Thursday morning.

Key Peninsula Fire Department spokesperson Anne Nesbit told The News Tribune Thursday afternoon that the fire’s cause is unknown and is under investigation.

The fire was reported at the intersection of 132nd Street Northwest and Wright Bliss Road around 7:18 a.m. by a driver passing by on a nearby street, she said. Crews from Key Peninsula, Mason County and Gig Harbor responded to the call and reached the scene around 10 minutes later. They finished putting out the fire in about an hour, and finished at the scene in about four and a half hours, Nesbit said.

The building was uninhabited and no one was injured in the fire, she said, adding that the building is uninhabitable after the fire damage.

She said when crews arrived, the fire had engulfed the second floor of the structure, where it appeared to have begun.

Nesbit said no nearby structures or trees were damaged, and that no streets needed to be closed as the crews worked.

The incident remains under investigation.
