Man killed in parking accident with work truck in Gig Harbor area

A man was killed Friday when his work truck rolled down a driveway and ran him over in the Canterwood area north of Gig Harbor.

Deputies received calls at around 7 p.m. June 27 from Canterwood Drive Northwest and Muir Drive Northwest, according to a news release from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The man, 65, was working for a homeowner there, sheriff’s office spokesperson Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

“This investigation is ongoing as detectives figure out what was wrong with the truck,” the release said. Cappetto said a final determination hasn’t been released, but there appears to have been an issue with the truck’s parking brake.

Editor’s note: The headline of this story previously misstated the type of accident that occurred. It was a parking accident.
